Dancehall Queen Carlene

Carlene was the first Official Dancehall Queen born in Kingston Jamaica and she was crowned in 1992 after she and her crew competed against well known models in Jamaica. There have been other dancehall queens before but on a national level she dominated the spotlight in a reign that was usually isolated to the Jamaican inner city garrisons. She was the trendsetter in the dancehall with her skimpy stylish fashion and dance techniques . Despite her association in the ghetto and the dancehall, she had a middle class upbringing and was raised in St. Andrew by her parents, her father is from a German descendant. Carlenes victory began at the age of 18 years old and she helped to break the barrier between uptown and downtown, these days you can see uptowners mingling with downtowners at dancehall events such as Weddy Weddy , “Uptown Mondayz” Passa Passa, Mojito Mondays to name a few.

Carlene has brought something different to the dancehall industry; somewhat similar to what Maddona did with pop culture she has helped to give dancehall an identity which is still being cherished around the world. Carlene has performed around the world and sold out venues , her fans admire her for her light-skinned, curvaceous body; many described her as uptown browning always decked out in some unique outfits, jewelries, and piercings.

Carlene can be seen in many dancehall videos of earlier days.

She has been an ambassador for many companies like Courts Furnitures and Slam Condoms as she was a perfect figure to promote safe sex.

Dancehall queen carlene no longer blaze the dancefloors but offcourse is a mentor for upcoming queens and has a tv show and is involved in many different organizations but still loves dancehall and still represents for the culture. Her leagacy will never be forgotten for many years to come and everyone still respects her for the work she has done to help build the dancehall scene.
